The setting provides a highly structured, nurturing, and therapeutic environment designed to support pupils both academically and emotionally.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education, relationship-based practice, and supporting young people to re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adapt learning activities and curriculum content to support pupils working below age-related expectations

  • Develop positive and consistent relationships with pupils to support engagement, confidence, and progress

  • Use behaviour support strategies and restorative approaches to manage challenging behaviour effectively

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, therapists, and external professionals

  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress accurately, both academically and socially/emotionally

  • Support pupils’ personal development, resilience, and emotional wellbeing alongside academic achievement

  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent support for pupils

The Learning Environment

  • Small class sizes allowing for highly personalised teaching and support

  • Pupils aged 4–16 with SEMH needs and additional barriers to learning

  • High levels of adult support within the classroom

  • A therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to behaviour and wellbeing

  • A nurturing and structured environment focused on building trust, engagement, and positive outcomes

  • Opportunities to work across both primary and secondary age ranges depending on experience and preference

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching pupils within a primary, SEN, or alternative provision setting

  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and inclusive teaching practices

  • Ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour

  • Calm, resilient, and adaptable approach to teaching and behaviour management

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working within an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision setting

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches, or therapeutic interventions

  • Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs, autism, or behavioural difficulties

  • Experience leading or coordinating support staff within the classroom

What is Offered

  • A supportive and collaborative staff team

  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and specialist SEMH training

  • Well-resourced classrooms and strong pastoral support

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with additional needs

  • A rewarding role within a highly supportive specialist setting
