Support Worker - Learning Support Assistant 

- Healthcare or social service background
- Confident providing personal care 
- Looking to support children and young people in an educational setting

I am currently looking for experienced social workers/support workers/healthcare workers to work in my partner school near Batley, Leeds. The School is a special educational needs school that caters for children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties. If you are looking for a new career but want to put your current skills and expertise to best use, this could be the role for you. The school is fully equipped with tracking, beds, hoists and a medical team along with other therapeutic resources such as a hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, sensory room and physiotherapy team. 

Children and young people in school face a number of physical and mental challenges meaning their learning is considerably delayed and frequently revolves around intensive interaction therapy or sensory learning. As a Support Worker you would be required to work 1:1 with students to help promote their learning in line with educational healthcare plans (EHCP's), you may from time to time be asked to facilitate small group work with more able children. 

The support worker role and ideal candidate: 

  • Working in a special educational needs setting 
  • Supporting students 1:1 with learning and personal care needs 
  • Have a background in social work, care work or supporting children with physical disabilities
  • Be patient, empathetic and dedicated to helping young people grow and learn
  • Provide support in therapy sessions as required 
  • Have relevant training such as manual handling or be willing to undergo training 
  • Have experience of working with people with physical disabilities in any capacity 
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one
