SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Portsmouth
Pay: £13.75 per hour
Contract: Term-time only (via Teaching Personnel)

Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our supportive specialist schools in Portsmouth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people with additional needs reach their full potential.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support

  • Assisting teachers in adapting activities and resources

  • Supporting students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development

  • Helping to promote positive behaviour strategies

  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and wider school staff to deliver personalised learning plans

What is an SEN School?

An SEN school is specifically designed for students with additional needs, this may include learning difficulties, physical disabilities, or social, emotional and mental health needs. These schools offer specialist support, tailored teaching approaches, and environments where every student is encouraged to succeed.

  • Experience within an SEN setting is desirable but not essential

  • Empathy, patience and strong communication skills

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff

  • A proactive, flexible approach to supporting diverse needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
