SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job description
Teaching Personnel are working with a school seeking an experienced and resilient Support Assistant to join their dedicated team at a specialist SEMH school on the outskirts of Portsmouth. The school provides a supportive and structured environment for Secondary aged pupils who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, often alongside other learning differences. Every day, staff make a genuine difference by helping pupils develop confidence, self-regulation, and a sense of belonging.
About The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide high-quality support both inside and outside the classroom. You will help pupils manage their emotions, engage positively in learning, and build positive, trusting relationships.
The Successful Candidate:

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs

Demonstrates strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

Shows resilience, patience, and a calm, consistent approach

Builds positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
-
Uses initiative and creativity to motivate and re-engage learners
- Must maintain safeguarding policies and protocols at all times

Weekly pay of £13.75 per hour

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
