Teaching Personnel are working with a special school in Heaton who are seeking a Special Needs Support Worker on a full time basis (term time) to start ASAP.
Our client is a specialist school for children & young people aged 3 to 19 years. The pupils have severe and complex needs arising from communication and interaction difficulties, autism and severe learning difficulties. The school supports children from the whole of the Bradford district and is located in Heaton, to the West of the city. All staff work collaboratively to provide a learning environment that promotes positive behaviour and teaches skills in emotional and physical well-being. The team is made up of teachers, support staff and a Therapeutic Approaches Team which includes a Speech & Language Therapist, 2 Occupational Therapists, 2 Aromatherapists, and a Creative Practitioner.
Due to a recent increase in pupil numbers, the school are looking to appoint a Special Needs Support Worker this term. The successful candidate will be classroom based, working with pupils aged 11-16 with complex Special Educational Needs. You will work closely with the class teacher to deliver a bespoke curriculum, focussing on improving pupils' communication and interaction skills, and promoting independence. You will be required to deliver specific interventions including rebound therapy, sensory programmes, aroma therapy massage, and creative activities incorporating drama, music and dance. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and it is essential that you have previous experience of supporting individuals with complex Special Educational Needs. You must be confident in effectively managing challenging behaviour and assisting with personal care where necessary. Additional training in Team Teach, Makaton, Intensive Interaction and/or PECs is also highly desirable.
With over 20 years as the UK's leading supply agency, Teaching Personnel have established a large local and national presence - offering a diverse range of work in a variety of settings. From short term and emergency cover to long term and permanent positions, we are happy to be able to offer you flexibility to suit your lifestyle. Our CPD academy will ensure that you are kept up to date through relevant courses, with Team Teach, EAL, Moving and Handling, Introduction to Autism, and Effective Behaviour Management just some of the specialist SEN sessions you can benefit from as a registered candidate with Teaching Personnel. We are committed to finding you your perfect role.
