KS4 Teaching assistant- SLD- Team- Teach

A full time position for a teaching assistant working with pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD) within a special school located in Rochdale. The position is full-time and is initially the first term September – October 2017. However, dependent on the need of the school there may be an opportunity for permeant.

The school is located close to the centre of Rochdale. The head teacher is currently looking to appoint an experienced teaching assistant (TA) for post 16 pupils with severe learning difficulties. The school currently has 253 pupils on roll and caters for pupils with special needs and disabilities (SEND) who are aged 11-19. In its most recent 2016 inspection the school was graded as ‘good’ by OFSTED.

This role will involve working in close collaboration with a classroom teacher to support post 16 pupils with severe learning difficulties in reaching the best possible educational outcomes. Due to the individual needs of the pupils the ideal teaching assistant will have an in-depth understanding of how to cater for pupils with SLD. Ideally the teaching assistant will have experience within a special school; however this is not essential as long as they can demonstrate a genuine passion for supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties.

To be considered for the post the teaching assistant should have:

- Experience of working with special educational needs

- Experience of working in close collaboration with a classroom teacher, school support and the wider community

- An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the SEND code of practice

- A commitment to assuring that all pupils are fully supported in achieving the best possible outcomes and exceeding expectation’s
