SEN Teaching Assistants - Milton Keynes

Teaching Personnel is currently working with a number of SEN schools who are looking to appoint SEN Teaching Assistants for a variety of day-to-day, short term and long term bookings across Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire.

Special Needs Teaching Assistants are required to support students with a range of additional needs in the classroom as directed by an SEN teacher in order to help pupils succeed with their learning.

This is an incredibly rewarding role and it takes a special person to work with pupils with Special Educational Needs. Class sizes in SEN schools are generally smaller and there is a high ratio of LSA support. You may also be working with other professionals within the school, e.g. a nurse, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, etc.

Your duties could include:

• Supporting students on a 1-1 basis or in a small group
• Helping with pupils to complete their school work under the supervision of an SEN teacher
• Helping pupils increase their confidence, self-esteem and independence
• Assisting with the management of Challenging Behaviour

The successful candidate should:

• Have knowledge/interest and/or experience working with Special Educational Needs
• Feel confident in providing positive reinforcement when supporting behaviour difficulties
• Be a patient, positive and approachable role model for children
• Knowledge of BSL, Makaton, Team Teach, would be desirable but is not essential

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
