Job description

Specialist Teaching Assistant needed at a Secondary School based in Old Trafford

Teaching Personnel are working with a secondary school in Old Trafford who are seeking a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant to join their Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision.

The successful candidate will work closely with students with special educational needs, providing support and assistance to help them achieve their full potential. The role will involve working collaboratively with the SENCO, teachers, and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

This position starts in September 2024, and will run full-time until the end of the academic year (July 2025).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEN, helping them to access the curriculum and make progress in their learning.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies for students with SEN.
  • Support the classroom teacher in differentiating lessons and adapting materials to meet the diverse needs of students with SEN.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their independence and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO and other professionals to assess students’ needs and contribute to the development of personalized learning strategies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant experience working with children or young people with special educational needs is desirable.
  • A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred, but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • An understanding of different learning styles and the ability to adapt support strategies accordingly.
  • Working Hours: Full-time position, Monday to Friday during school hours.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
