SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Position in Newport Secondary School (Starting September 2025)

Location: Newport, NP10
Start Date: September 2025
Working Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Fixed-term until July 2026
Pay Rate: £89.38–£105 per day | £13.75–£16.93 per hour (PAYE – Term Time Only)

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a well-respected and inclusive secondary school in Newport. The school is known for its strong commitment to supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) including ASD, SEMH, speech and language challenges, and global developmental delay (GDD).

This role offers the opportunity to join a skilled support team focused on inclusion, student well-being, and personalised learning pathways.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students aged 11–16 with a range of SEN

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to implement personalised learning strategies and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

  • Support student progress in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction

  • Encourage a positive and inclusive classroom environment

  • Contribute to wider school initiatives in literacy, numeracy, and behaviour development


We Welcome Applications From:

  • Qualified or aspiring Teaching Assistants

  • Graduates in Psychology, Education, or Performing Arts

  • Former support workers, youth workers, or individuals from the care sector

  • Candidates with experience in SEN, ALN, SEMH or behavioural support

  • Sports coaches, mentors, or those with a minimum of 3 months’ experience working with children or young people
