SEN Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision (Hamilton Square)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: Hamilton Square, Wirral

An established and inclusive Alternative Provision based in the heart of Hamilton Square is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its permanent staff team from September 2025.

This provision specialises in supporting children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, ASD, ADHD, and other complex learning profiles. The successful candidate will play a vital role in fostering a nurturing, structured, and therapeutic environment that allows learners to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with a wide range of SEN on a one-to-one and small group basis
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering a differentiated curriculum
  • Managing challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent, and therapeutic manner
  • Promoting inclusion and encouraging engagement in learning and personal development
  • Collaborating with teaching staff, external professionals, and parents/carers
  • Contributing to individual support plans and behaviour support strategies
  • Helping create a safe and welcoming learning environment

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, preferably in an alternative provision, special school, or PRU setting
  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people with additional needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of SEN strategies, including those for managing behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable learners
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one before starting)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
