SEN TA, Peckham

Date posted : 30/07/18
£60 - £75 per day

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

A vibrant and friendly school in Peckham are recruiting for an experienced one to one teaching assistant to join on a full-time basis from September. The role will involve supporting a new child to the school in year 4 with Global Delay that also exhibits challenging behaviour. The school celebrates the academic and creative roots of the local area and community, working to provide a protective environment for children to grow and flourish. The school is right by Burgess Park with a number of bus routes stopping just down the road and is under a mile from the very well connected Peckham Rye Station.

At the schools first official inspection since becoming an academy it was graded Ofsted 'Outstanding' (Oct 2017), something they are very proud of and working hard to maintain. The school leaders are inspirational and continually searching for ways to improve pupil outcomes. All staff in the school are committed to putting children at the heart of what they do. The strong team spirit and focus on learning really shine through and will be sure to make you feel welcome.

The school has an expectation that everyone should be a learner with many of the teachers within the school undertaking further qualifications. The leaders bring current research evidence of the most effective practice back into the school, having a direct impact on development. Staff work to challenging targets but are supported with continuous opportunities for professional development including regular staff training meetings and teachers working in groups to improve aspects of their practice.

One of the schools most interesting features is their three-teacher model where they employ three teachers per year group despite being a two form entry school. This is a crucial component of their pedagogical approach as it allows small class sizes for core subject learning and targeted support where needed. Core subjects are taught each morning in 3 classes of 20 and the afternoons are then used for specialist teaching with three afternoons a week making use of the third teacher to run interventions. Each school day ends with a team meeting of the year group teachers to discuss the learning that has taken place and planning next steps for the year group. This teamwork approach allows for rapid progress for not only the students but also the teachers as they are able to continuously learn from each other.

The school are hoping to interview as soon as possible so if this sounds like the right environment for you, be sure to apply as soon as possible! Shortlisting criteria include:

  • Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour and/or global delay
  • A strong team player
  • Ambition and drive to be an 'Outstanding' teaching assistant
  • Willingness to get stuck in and involved with extra-curricular activities around the school
