Would you like to make a real difference to the life chances of young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Are you seeking varied and interesting work in a friendly environment? Would you welcome the challenge of career development and training? Or are you looking for experience in education while considering a career as a teacher?

Our client is a special school in Bradford for students aged 11-19. Students who attend the school have a wide range of SEN. These include Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). The school has Specialist School Status in Communication and Interaction, and are OFSTED ‘Outstanding’ (May 2018).

The school are seeking a full time Support Assistant (term time only) to join their team this term. You will be welcomed into an experienced team of staff, and a caring school community which recognises pupils’ efforts and celebrates their achievements.

As a Support Assistant, your role will be to support students to:

  • Foster a caring, respectful attitude to others
  • Become independent and socially competent adults
  • Earn their living, gain job satisfaction, enjoy their learning and be eager to continue learning
  • Take pride in themselves
  • Develop self-confidence, an ability to communicate and acquire the skills necessary in life
  • Be able to play a positive role in today’s society
  • Achieve their fullest potential

You will have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and to implement a range of holistic programmes as advised by key practitioners across the school. Due to the complex nature of pupils’ needs, you must also be comfortable providing personal care.

Previous experience of working within a Special School is highly desirable; however we will also welcome applications from those with a background in:

  • Youth/Community Work
  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Sports Science
  • Psychology and/or Counselling
  • Art/Drama/Play Therapy
  • Health and Social Care

If you are passionate about making a difference to the education of young people with additional needs and working within a specialist environment, we would love to hear from you! Please contact Rebecca Barham on the details provided.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
