Job description

SEN Primary Teacher

We are seeking a passionate and adaptable SEN Primary Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive primary setting working with pupils aged 4–11 with a range of special educational needs. The school provides a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils are supported to engage with learning, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes.

Pupils within the setting may present with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs, moderate learning difficulties and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios allow for highly personalised teaching and strong, trusting relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated primary lessons to meet a range of SEN needs
  • Adapt the curriculum to support pupils with additional learning needs
  • Create a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment
  • Support pupils’ academic progress and emotional development
  • Implement EHCP targets and individual learning plans
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs and pastoral staff
  • Use inclusive and positive behaviour strategies
  • Monitor, assess and record pupil progress

Ideal Candidate

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has experience working with pupils with SEN or a strong interest in specialist education
  • Is patient, resilient and adaptable in their approach
  • Confident in managing behaviour using positive strategies
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Committed to inclusive, pupil-centred teaching
  • Willing to learn and develop within an SEN setting

The school offers well-resourced classrooms, access to sensory and intervention spaces, and supportive leadership that prioritises staff wellbeing and professional development. Ongoing SEN-focused training and clear behaviour systems are in place to support staff in their roles.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a primary teacher looking to make a meaningful difference in a supportive SEN setting.
