SEN Behavioural Support Teacher-
Location- Penarth, Cardiff
Salary- £172.98/ day
Contract type- Full time roles available
The Role-
An exciting opportunity has become available for a SEN Behavioural Support Teacher to join our award‑winning SEN school. This role focuses on supporting pupils aged 3–19 years with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), particularly those who require structured behavioural and emotional support to access learning.
The successful candidate will deliver and support learning across the curriculum, working with pupils who may present with behaviours that challenge, social communication needs, or emotional regulation difficulties. A key element of the role is the ability to create a calm, nurturing, and highly structured learning environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to engage.
Applicants must have experience in using positive behaviour support strategies, trauma‑informed approaches, or therapeutic practices that promote emotional wellbeing and inclusion. The school’s ethos of nurturing confident, resilient individuals who are prepared to play a meaningful role in life strongly underpins both classroom practice and the wider school culture.

Requirements-
- Individuals with experience teaching in SEN schools.
- Individuals with a coherent and in-depth understanding of ALN and how to carter to them via independent learning plans.
- Educators who create fun and exciting environments where learning and self-exploration can take place.
- Individuals who remain calm under pressure and who are highly empathetic during challenging situations.
- Teachers who can support their fellow members of staff and lead by example in their behaviour and attitude throughout the school.
- Hold a Qualified Teaching Status (QTS).
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
- Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
- Level 2 Safeguard training.
- Professional references covering the previous 24 months of employment, in addition to/ including a reference from a SEN school as a previous employer.
About the School-
The school is based in Penarth but has campuses around Barry and Cardiff. The school supports around 500 pupils aged 3–19, all with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including ASD, PMLD, and physical disabilities.
While the environment is fast‑paced, staff are fully supported by a strong team and a dedicated Headteacher. The school is award‑winning, recognised for its innovative use of technology to enhance learning and participation.
Alongside a rich curriculum, pupils benefit from regular outdoor and community‑based activities that build confidence and prepare them for life beyond school. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
