Further Education SEN Student Support Assistant-
Location- Cardiff
Salary- £89.38/ day
Contract type- Part-time and full-time roles available
About the Role-
As a valued member of our college team, you’ll collaborate with specialist tutors, psychologists, and support staff, drawing on approaches such as TEACCH, PECS, and Makaton, to support learners with autism and complex ALN/SEN. Our students benefit from highly individualised, structured educational experiences designed around their unique needs, helping them access meaningful, transferable learning opportunities.
Your role is vital in establishing a safe, calm, and supportive environment on our serene campus near Cardiff. You’ll help students re-engage in their education and build confidence and self‑esteem through consistent emotional support and relational teaching.
You’ll work primarily with small groups of 4–6 learners and provide 1:1 support for those with more complex needs, fostering communication, independence, and social skills through a combination of structured routines and creative learning activities.
Daily responsibilities may include:
- Supporting learners to manage emotions using person-centred, trauma-informed, and positive behaviour approaches.
- Helping students develop independence, communication, and problem-solving skills through structured routines and personalised learning.
- Implementing individual support plans and using proactive strategies to reduce anxiety and promote engagement.
- Encouraging participation through meaningful activities that build confidence, self-esteem, and motivation.

Our provision supports learners from post-16 onwards, offering personalised programmes that focus on developing independence, emotional wellbeing, and preparation for adulthood.

Requirements-
- No previous experience working in a further education setting is required, although any work involving young people ALN is highly beneficial.
- A positive, compassionate, and non-judgmental attitude, with a genuine passion for supporting learners who may face significant challenges.
- The ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
- Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (we can support you with this).
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
- Two references available upon request.
- Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
