Behaviour Support & SEN Assistant – Bristol, Gloucester and Bath
Full-Time & Part-Time Roles | Term-Time | Immediate Starts Available

We are seeking resilient, motivated individuals to join schools across Bristol as Behaviour Support & SEN Assistants. This role involves supporting children and young people with Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), ADHD, communication differences and challenging behaviour.
If you have experience in care, mental health, behaviour support, SEN environments, youth work, or you are a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in education, this is an excellent opportunity to start or develop your career.

About the Role
You will work within primary, secondary and specialist SEN settings, supporting pupils who require additional guidance with emotional regulation, learning engagement and behaviour.
Pupils may display:
- Challenging or dysregulated behaviour
- Anxiety, low mood or confidence issues
- Social communication difficulties
- Autism spectrum profiles
- Trauma-related barriers to learning
Your role is to provide stability, consistency and supportive intervention that helps each pupil progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups with learning, behaviour and emotional regulation
- Use calm, structured approaches to manage challenging behaviour
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who require additional support
- Help students stay focused, engaged and confident in lessons
- Follow personalised support plans and behaviour strategies
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral teams
- Promote resilience, independence and positive coping skills
- Contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment
Who This Role Suits

No teaching qualifications are required. Full training is provided.
Essential Skills
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
- Ability to remain calm and consistent during challenging situations
- A proactive and resilient approach
- Patience, professionalism and empathy
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience with Autism, SEMH or behaviour support
- Training such as Team Teach, safeguarding or first aid
- Experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged young people
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Ability to lead structured activities or mentoring sessions
