Job description

About the Role

We’re looking for passionate, resilient and committed Youth Behaviour Mentors to join our team supporting schools across Bristol. You’ll be working with young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs — students who need positive role models, structure, and consistency in their school lives.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll play a key role in helping pupils manage challenging behaviour, re-engage with learning, and develop the confidence and emotional regulation needed to succeed in and beyond school.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural challenges in both 1:1 and small group settings

  • Helping to create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment

  • Building trusting relationships and acting as a positive role model

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to support behaviour strategies

  • Using restorative approaches and de-escalation techniques to manage conflict

  • Supporting emotional literacy, self-regulation, and social skills development


Who We’re Looking For

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on making a difference in challenging environments.
You might come from one of the following backgrounds:

  • Ex-military or armed forces personnel – with the discipline, resilience, and leadership to support young people

  • Youth workers or mentors – with a passion for guiding and empowering young people

  • Ex-prison officers or probation staff – experienced in managing behaviour and conflict with calm authority

  • Sports coaches or team leaders – who know how to motivate and inspire through positive relationships

We’re looking for:

  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills

  • Empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence

  • The ability to stay calm under pressure

  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs


Requirements

  • Previous experience working with young people (formal or informal)

  • DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)

  • Full UK driving licence and access to transport (desirable)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
