SEMH Teaching Assistant

1:1 Teaching Assistant Required in a Nelson Primary School.

  • Full time 5 days a week from January 2017 until at least Easter 2017
  • Nelson Primary School with a supportive and friendly staffroom atmosphere.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH is essential for this role.

Role:

The successful candidate will be required to work on a 1:1 basis with a child in Year 1 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties, Global Learning Delay and Attachment disorder. This pupil needs nurturing support which will contribute towards positively managing challenging behaviour in the classroom and enable them to return to class on a permanent basis.

The role will involve 1:1 support work both inside and out of class as appropriate. Team teach trained would be an advantage, however, experience of active child support in similar circumstances is essential .Experience working with pupils within a nurture provision, supporting ‘looked after children’ or pupils with attachment disorders is highly sought after.

The School:

The school is a larger than average, two form-entry junior school, located just off of the M65. It is easily accessible via a number of public transport. The school has very high expectations of behaviour management in school, as they do have a number of pupils with SEMH. The school does have a mixed catchment area, mainly children who attend the school are of Asian heritage, with a small percentage of eastern European pupils attend the school. Experience providing EAL support would be desirable.
