Position Overview: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support to students with SEMH needs, enabling them to thrive academically and emotionally. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions, behavior, and social interactions.
- Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to develop and implement personalized support plans for students with SEMH needs.
- Supporting students in accessing the curriculum and participating in learning activities, adapting teaching methods as necessary to accommodate their individual needs.
- Acting as a mentor and role model for students, providing guidance, encouragement, and reassurance to promote their self-confidence and self-esteem.
- Implementing behavior management strategies and interventions to support positive behavior and emotional regulation among students with SEMH needs.
- Monitoring and recording student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/carers to support ongoing development.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs, either in a school setting or a similar environment, is highly desirable.
- A compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting young people with diverse emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and resilience in responding to the individual needs and challenges of students with SEMH needs.
