Job description

Are you a resilient, compassionate, and patient individual with a genuine desire to support young people facing behavioural challenges and anxiety? We’re looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in the Bolton area, working with students who have complex social, and mental health needs such as high anxiety and behavioural challenges.

This is a deeply rewarding role where you’ll help pupils with EHCPs thrive both academically and emotionally, offering consistent support and encouragement in a safe and inclusive environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalised support aligned with individual EHCPs
  • Use de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour
  • Create a calm, nurturing space that promotes emotional wellbeing
  • Support students in the classroom and during structured activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Carry out general TA duties including small group interventions

What We’re Looking For:

  • A caring, adaptable, and proactive approach
  • Experience supporting individuals with behavioural or mental health needs
  • Confidence in building strong, trusting relationships
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Patience, empathy, and emotional resilience

✅ Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in a similar role (paid or voluntary)
  • Enhanced DBS for Child & Adult Workforce (or willingness to obtain)
  • Safeguarding training (provided)
  • Two employment references covering the last 2 years
