Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to support in one of our dynamic secondary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools in Salford. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to support students aged 11–16 with a range of mental health and behavioural needs such as Autism, ADHD, High Anxiety, Oppositional defiant disorder and Depression. Your role will involve:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • De-escalating challenging behaviour using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
  • Promoting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interactions.
  • Assisting with classroom activities and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Contributing to behaviour intervention plans and safeguarding protocols.
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment which promotes positivity and engagement

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Empathetic, patient, and emotionally intelligent.
  • Resilient and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Adaptable with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Committed to inclusive education and safeguarding.
  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEMH needs (school, youth work, residential care, or similar settings).

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A valid Enhanced DBS for both Child and Adult Workforce, registered on the Update Service.
  • Two professional references from the past two years, ideally from education or youth-based settings.
  • A genuine interest in supporting vulnerable young people and promoting positive outcomes.
  • Valid Documentation confirming Right to Work in the UK
  • Safeguarding Training (provided)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
