Behaviour Support Assistant Manchester
Job description
Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We are seeking a committed and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to support one of our schools in the Manchester area. In this role you will be play a vital role in supporting students who face behavioural challenges, high anxiety, and have found mainstream education difficult to access.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will help students regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and feel safe and supported in school. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SEN team to implement strategies that promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted behaviour support to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom.
- Implement de-escalation techniques and restorative practices to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
- Support students in regulating emotions and developing positive coping strategies.
- Work closely with teaching staff to adapt lesson content and delivery in line with EHCPs and individual needs.
- Monitor and record behavioural incidents, contributing to behaviour plans and reviews.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing.
- Support reintegration into classroom learning following incidents or time out.
- Contribute to the creation of a safe, calm, and nurturing school environment.
Requirements:
- Enhanced DBS (Child & Adult Workforce) registered on the Update Service.
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Safeguarding training and a strong understanding of child protection procedures. (provided by Teaching Personnel)
- References covering the last 2 years of employment or education.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Desirable:
- Experience in a secondary school or alternative provision setting.
- Knowledge of EHCPs and behaviour management strategies.
- Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, youth work, or counselling.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
