Job description

Are you a compassionate, resilient, and patient individual looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people with complex behavioural, social, and mental health needs?

We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students in a secondary school setting in the Stockport area. This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), helping them to thrive both academically and emotionally.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support in line with individual EHCPs
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Support students both in and out of the classroom
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Carry out general TA duties including classroom support and small group interventions

What We’re Looking For:

  • Resilience, understanding, compassion, and patience
  • Experience working with children or adults with behavioural, social, or mental health needs
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with students and staff
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning and wellbeing

Essential Requirements:

✅ Experience in a similar role or setting (voluntary or paid)
✅ Enhanced DBS for both Child and Adult Workforce (or willingness to obtain one)
✅ Completion of Safeguarding Training (provided)
✅ Two employment references covering the last 2 years
