Job description

Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Blackburn with Darwen
Setting: Secondary Alternative Provision
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract Type: Long-term

We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a Secondary Alternative Provision in the Blackburn with Darwen area. This is a long-term opportunity to work within a supportive and specialised environment, helping to support students who require additional behavioural and emotional support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs

  • Implement strategies to manage and improve challenging behaviour

  • Support teaching staff in delivering tailored learning activities

  • Encourage positive social interaction and emotional well-being

  • Play an active role in school life and be willing to get involved wherever needed

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with pupils with SEMH and/or behavioural needs

  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • A proactive and hands-on approach to supporting students

  • Experience in an alternative provision or similar setting is highly desirable

  • A genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
