Pay Rate: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour
Contract: Temp-to-Perm

Are you a compassionate, resilient individual with experience supporting children or young adults with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Special Educational Needs (SEN), or challenging behaviour? We are currently recruiting for a Pastoral Mentor to join a specialist SEMH setting in the Blackburn area this September.

This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering long-term stability for the right candidate. The school is a well-established independent provision supporting students aged 6–17 with SEMH needs, ASC, ADHD, and other associated difficulties. The nurturing, trauma-informed environment is focused on building trusting relationships and providing a safe space for young people to succeed emotionally and academically.

Your Role:

  • Support students on a 1:1 and small group basis, both in and outside of class.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships to promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and senior leaders to implement behaviour and wellbeing strategies.
  • Act as a key adult and mentor for identified students, helping them to develop resilience and self-regulation skills.
  • Encourage engagement with learning and provide tailored pastoral interventions.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with young people with SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour (e.g. in schools, residential care, youth work, or alternative provision).
  • A calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach.
  • Strong communication and teamworking skills.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
