Are you a compassionate, resilient individual with experience supporting children or young adults with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Special Educational Needs (SEN), or challenging behaviour? We are currently recruiting for a Pastoral Mentor to join a specialist SEMH setting in the Blackburn area this September.
This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering long-term stability for the right candidate. The school is a well-established independent provision supporting students aged 6–17 with SEMH needs, ASC, ADHD, and other associated difficulties. - Build strong, supportive relationships to promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
- Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and senior leaders to implement behaviour and wellbeing strategies.
- Act as a key adult and mentor for identified students, helping them to develop resilience and self-regulation skills.
- Encourage engagement with learning and provide tailored pastoral interventions.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working with young people with SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour (e.g. in schools, residential care, youth work, or alternative provision).
- A calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach.
- Strong communication and teamworking skills.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
What We Offer:
- Competitive hourly rate: £13.75 – £14.50, dependent on experience.
- Supportive, values-driven school environment.
- Temp-to-perm route for long-term job security.
- Opportunity to make a genuine difference in young people’s lives.
