SEMH Teaching Assistant – Blackburn

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Blackburn, with an immediate start available. This is a temp to perm contract offering a competitive hourly rate of £13.75 – £14.50, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in a structured and nurturing environment.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to implement tailored strategies that promote emotional regulation, behaviour management and academic progress.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Help pupils develop their confidence, resilience and social skills.
  • Assist in delivering creative and therapeutic interventions.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all learners.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, or a strong interest in the field.
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Calm, patient and adaptable approach to challenging situations.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Ability to commit to a full-time, long-term position with the potential for a permanent role.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Psychology) are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
