Level 3 Teaching Assistant

Location: Blackburn
Rate: £13.75 - £14.50 per hour
Start Date: September 2025

We’re seeking a compassionate, resilient, and qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support children aged 8–16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will join a supportive team dedicated to delivering personalised, structured learning and therapeutic provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils, helping them access learning and develop coping strategies.
  • Assist in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons and activities.
  • Support pupils to manage challenging behaviour using calm de‑escalation strategies.
  • Foster pupils’ literacy, communication, and independence skills.
  • Contribute to monitoring pupils’ personal, social, and emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain a safe, nurturing environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
  • Experience or strong interest in working with pupils with SEMH or challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent behaviour‑management skills and emotional resilience.
  • Ability to build trust with pupils through patience, empathy and consistency.

Desirable Attributes

  • Personal or professional experience supporting children with SEMH or challenging behaviour.
  • Training in de‑escalation techniques or therapeutic interventions.
  • Adaptable approach and strong communication skills.
