Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant

Full-Time | September Start |Teaching Personnel

Are you a recent graduate looking to make a genuine difference in young people’s lives? This rewarding opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You may work with pupils who present behaviours linked to anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment difficulties, ADHD, trauma, or challenges with emotional regulation—requiring patience, empathy, and consistency.

About the School

You will be based in a specialist setting that supports primary and secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment focused on both academic progress and emotional development. Class sizes are small, allowing for tailored support, and staff work collaboratively to promote positive behaviour strategies and resilience.

The Role

As a Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours in a calm, supportive manner
  • Assist in delivering engaging lessons alongside teaching staff
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Encourage emotional regulation and positive social interactions
  • Contribute to a safe, structured learning environment

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree (Psychology, Education, or related subject desirable)
  • A keen interest in SEMH and inclusive education
  • Resilience, patience, and a proactive attitude
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
