Teaching Personnel are working with specialist SEMH provisions and alternative settings across Stockport and Tameside, supporting them in recruiting resilient, compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants/Behaviour Mentors for the new academic year.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll support pupils who may experience social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them engage with education in a positive and structured way.

Your role may involve:

✅ Supporting students with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, and complex backgrounds
✅ Building strong, trusting relationships to support emotional wellbeing
✅ Assisting with behaviour regulation and de-escalation strategies
✅ Providing 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
✅ Helping create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
✅ Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds, including:

  • Education and teaching support
  • Youth work and mentoring
  • Residential or care work
  • Psychology and education graduates

You’ll be a great fit if you:

✔ Have experience supporting young people (SEMH experience desirable but not essential)
✔ Are confident, or willing to learn, how to support challenging behaviour
✔ Have a calm, resilient and patient approach
✔ Are passionate about supporting vulnerable pupils
✔ Can commit to Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
✔ Hold (or are willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
