Behaviour Support Assistant – Secondary SEMH School | Bury | Full-Time | September Start (ASAP Available)

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a specialist Secondary SEMH School in Bury to recruit a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant for a full-time role starting in September, with the opportunity to begin sooner for the right candidate.

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to support pupils who may have faced challenges both inside and outside the classroom and help them develop the confidence, resilience, and skills needed to succeed.

About the School

This specialist secondary provision supports students aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils have experienced disruptions to their education and require additional support to re-engage with learning and build positive relationships.

With small class sizes, strong pastoral support, and a dedicated staff team, the school focuses on helping pupils make meaningful progress both academically and emotionally.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students throughout the school day, providing consistent support, encouragement, and guidance. You will help pupils regulate emotions, manage behaviour positively, and remain engaged in learning.

You will build strong professional relationships with students, becoming a trusted adult and positive role model who helps them navigate challenges and celebrate successes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils and encourage engagement in learning
  • Support students during lessons, interventions, and breaktimes
  • Assist with behaviour management and de-escalation where required
  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals
  • Encourage confidence, independence, and personal development
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
