SEMH 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Manchester | Teaching Personnel

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEMH 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support students in a specialist provision for pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many students have EHCPs and may present with additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, attachment difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, trauma-related needs, and school avoidance. The provision offers a nurturing and highly personalised approach, helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve both academically and personally.

The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be a consistent and positive role model for a young person, helping them engage with education and build confidence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Build trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and resilience.
  • Support students to regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively.
  • Adapt learning activities to help pupils access the curriculum successfully.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to achieve individual targets.
  • Encourage independence, social development, and positive decision-making.
  • Celebrate progress and milestones, helping students recognise their achievements.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs is desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to remain positive in challenging situations.
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
