SEMH Secondary School | Stockport | Full-Time | September Start

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated Student Engagement Mentor to join a supportive SEMH Secondary School in Stockport this September. This is an exciting full-time opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of young people who require additional emotional, behavioural and social support to succeed in education.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in education, youth work, coaching, care, mentoring or behaviour support who are passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning.

The Role

As a Student Engagement Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing consistent encouragement, guidance and positive role modelling throughout the school day.

You will:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to improve engagement and attendance.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Help students develop confidence, resilience and social skills.
  • Encourage participation in lessons and school activities.
  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals to support individual behaviour plans.
  • Help create a calm, structured and positive learning environment.

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or challenging behaviour.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain positive and consistent in challenging situations.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
