Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant

Are you a recent graduate looking to kick-start a rewarding career in education or psychology? Teaching Personnel are recruiting a Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a specialist setting in Manchester. The school works with children who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs such as anxiety, attachment difficulties, behavioural challenges, trauma-related responses, and low self-esteem.
About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting young people who need guidance, consistency, and positive role models. You’ll work closely with pupils to help them engage with learning, manage emotions, and build confidence both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships to support emotional development
- Assist in managing behaviour using positive reinforcement strategies
- Support the delivery of engaging, tailored learning activities
- Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to implement support plans
- Encourage social skills, resilience, and self-regulation
What We’re Looking For
- A graduate (Psychology, Education, Criminology or related fields preferred)
- Passion for supporting young people with additional needs
- Resilient, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals is beneficial but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
