Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting a Behaviour Intervention Support Assistant to work within a specialist provision in Bolton, supporting pupils who need extra guidance to succeed.


About the Setting

This provision supports students aged 11–16 (KS3–KS4) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have faced challenges in mainstream education.

The Role

As a Behaviour Intervention Support Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students manage their behaviour, engage in learning, and develop positive coping strategies. You will work both 1:1 and in small groups, supporting pupils inside and outside the classroom.

✅ Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted behaviour support for students with SEMH needs
  • Build strong, positive relationships to encourage trust and engagement
  • Support students in regulating emotions and managing challenging behaviour
  • Assist in delivering lessons and interventions tailored to individual needs
  • Implement behaviour plans and strategies consistently
  • Help de-escalate situations and promote a calm, safe learning environment
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and pastoral teams

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with SEMH, behaviour, or vulnerable young people
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries
  • A valid DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to succeed

Desirable

  • Team Teach or other de-escalation training
  • Experience in alternative provisions, PRUs, or similar settings
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or youth work
