Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a confident and proactive Cover Supervisor to join a specialist SEMH secondary provision in Failsworth. This is a fantastic full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who is comfortable leading a classroom and taking initiative in a dynamic environment.

This provision supports pupils aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a structured and nurturing environment, helping pupils re-engage with education while developing confidence, resilience, and positive behaviours.

Staff work collaboratively to maintain a consistent and supportive setting, where strong relationships and clear boundaries are key.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading lessons in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring pupils remain engaged and on task.

This role requires someone who is confident leading from the front, willing to get involved, and able to use their initiative to manage behaviour and respond to situations as they arise.

You will play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning while supporting pupils’ emotional and behavioural needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise whole classes during teacher absence
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and ensure pupils stay on task
  • Manage behaviour confidently using consistent strategies
  • Use initiative to respond to challenges within the classroom
  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils
  • Support pupils in managing emotions and remaining engaged
  • Work closely with teaching staff and support teams
  • Be adaptable and ready to take an active role across the school day

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with young people (school-based or similar)
  • A confident presence in the classroom
  • Ability to take initiative and manage situations independently
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Calm, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • A genuine interest in supporting pupils with SEMH needs

Desirable Skills

  • Previous Cover Supervisor experience
  • Experience in SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision settings
  • Team Teach training (or willingness to complete training)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches
