1:1 Teaching Assistant (SEMH) – Secondary Provision – Bolton

Location: Bolton

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary SEMH provision in Bolton. The pupils you will support may present with a range of needs such as anxiety, ADHD, attachment difficulties, behavioural challenges, and emotional dysregulation. The ideal candidate will be resilient, calm, and committed to making a positive difference to a young person’s educational journey.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a KS3/KS4 pupil with SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Assist with personalised learning plans and differentiated activities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies.
  • Build trusting relationships to promote engagement and improve attendance.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive environment following the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies.

Requirements

  • Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or vulnerable young people (school, youth work, residential, or similar settings).
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and use de-escalation techniques when required.
