SEMH Primary Teacher

We are recruiting a passionate and resilient SEMH Primary Teacher to join a specialist primary setting in Oldham, supporting pupils aged 5–11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. The school provides a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils are supported to feel safe, build positive relationships and re-engage with learning.

Pupils within the setting may present with a range of SEMH needs including emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, attachment and trauma-related behaviours, and challenges with behaviour and engagement in the classroom. Many pupils benefit from clear routines, consistent boundaries and a trauma-informed, relationship-led approach.

You will work closely with an experienced and supportive team including teaching assistants, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals to deliver personalised learning and promote positive outcomes for every pupil.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the primary curriculum
  • Create a safe, calm and structured classroom environment
  • Support pupils’ academic progress alongside their emotional and social development
  • Implement EHCP targets, individual learning plans and behaviour support strategies
  • Use trauma-informed and positive behaviour approaches to support regulation
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and the wider support team
  • Monitor progress and celebrate achievements, no matter how small

Ideal Candidate

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has experience working with SEMH pupils or a strong interest in specialist education
  • Is calm, resilient and consistent in their approach
  • Confident in managing behaviour using positive strategies
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Committed to safeguarding and inclusive education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
