SEMH Teacher – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

Location: Trafford, Greater Manchester
Role Type: Full-time

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Trafford area to recruit a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teacher. This provision supports secondary-aged pupils who present with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation, trauma and attachment difficulties, anxiety, depression, ADHD and oppositional behaviours. Many pupils have experienced disrupted education and benefit from a highly structured, nurturing and restorative learning environment.

This role is ideal for an experienced teacher who is passionate about inclusion, behaviour support and re-engaging young people with education.


The Role

As an SEMH Teacher within the PRU, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons to small classes of pupils with SEMH needs
  • Create a calm, consistent and structured classroom environment
  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to support behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged or vulnerable
  • Adapt the curriculum to meet individual needs, abilities and EHCP targets
  • Manage behaviour effectively using the school’s policies and positive behaviour strategies
  • Work closely with pastoral staff, behaviour mentors, SENCOs and external agencies
  • Track progress and contribute to reviews, reports and planning meetings
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting resilience, self-esteem and personal development

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS / QTLS)
  • Experience teaching pupils with SEMH needs, ideally within a PRU, alternative provision or specialist setting
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional wellbeing
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with challenging or disengaged pupils
  • Flexibility, resilience and a genuine passion for inclusive education
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
