SEMH Primary Teacher

Full-time | Term Time | Long-term opportunity

We are recruiting an SEMH Primary Teacher to join a specialist primary school supporting pupils aged 5–11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. The school provides a trauma-informed, relationship-led environment where consistency, structure and care are central to pupil success. Pupils may present with emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, attachment needs, trauma-related behaviours and gaps in learning due to disrupted education.

The school offers a supportive and well-resourced SEMH primary environment where pupils are at the centre of everything they do. Class sizes are small, allowing staff to build strong, trusting relationships and deliver personalised learning within a calm, structured and trauma-informed setting. Clear routines and consistent behaviour approaches are in place to support both pupils and staff.

Teachers work as part of an experienced and collaborative team, including teaching assistants, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals. The school provides access to purpose-designed classrooms, sensory and regulation spaces, outdoor learning and therapeutic support, alongside supportive leadership that prioritises staff wellbeing, professional development and ongoing SEMH training.

The Role

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated primary lessons
  • Create a safe, predictable and supportive classroom environment
  • Support pupils’ emotional development alongside academic progress
  • Implement EHCP targets, behaviour plans and individual learning plans
  • Use positive behaviour and trauma-informed strategies
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and pastoral staff
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and families

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has experience with SEMH or a strong interest in specialist education
  • Is calm, resilient and reflective in their teaching practice
  • Confident in managing behaviour using positive, consistent approaches
  • Values teamwork and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Passionate about inclusive education and making a meaningful difference

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
