Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors | Brighton & Surrounding Areas

Want to keep working in education, but have a little more say over when you work?

I'm continuing to build my network of Secondary Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors across Brighton and the surrounding areas for the 2026/27 academic year.

And there isn't one particular reason people choose supply.

You might be an experienced teacher who wants to step away from the demands of a permanent timetable.

You might be an ECT wanting to experience different schools.

You could be considering teacher training and looking for meaningful classroom experience first.

Or you might simply have other things going on in your life and want education work that can fit around them.

That's where supply can be genuinely useful.

How flexible is flexible?

You don't need to commit to five days a week.

If you want to work two or three particular days, that's absolutely fine. If your availability changes each week, we can work around that too.

You let me know when you're looking for work, and I'll look at what's available across the schools I support.

Some bookings are arranged in advance.

Others happen much more quickly.

Schools can begin contacting me from around 6:30am, and occasionally earlier, when they've had unexpected staff absence. If you've told me you're available that day, I may therefore call or message you early to see whether you'd like the booking.

If same-day work isn't for you, that's useful for me to know too. There are also pre-booked opportunities, so we can look at what type of supply fits you best.

Supply Teachers

I'm looking for qualified teachers across a range of secondary subjects.

You'll generally need QTS or an appropriate equivalent, and bookings can range from general daily cover through to subject-specific teaching and longer-term assignments.

Supply can work particularly well for experienced teachers wanting more flexibility, ECTs building experience, teachers returning after some time away or anyone between longer-term positions.

Cover Supervisors

You don't need QTS to work as a Cover Supervisor.

You'll generally be supervising work prepared by the school, supporting pupils to stay focused and maintaining a positive classroom environment while their usual teacher is absent.

Alongside experienced Cover Supervisors, I'm happy to speak with people from backgrounds such as:

• Sports coaching
• Youth work
• Tutoring
• Mentoring
• Graduate roles
• Other work involving groups of young people

If you're considering teaching in the future, Cover Supervisor work can also give you useful experience of different schools before deciding on your next step.

Finding schools you actually enjoy

One of the useful things about supply is being able to experience different schools.

Some will naturally suit you more than others.

When you find somewhere you enjoy working, let me know. Likewise, if a school has had a positive experience with you and asks for you again, I'll always try to make that happen.

Over time, that can mean returning to familiar schools rather than every booking feeling like you're starting from scratch.

And if you eventually decide you want something more consistent, we can also look at longer-term opportunities.

A realistic word about day-to-day supply

Work does fluctuate, so day-to-day supply isn't something I'd describe as guaranteed Monday-to-Friday employment.

There will be busy periods and quieter ones.

For somebody who needs a fixed working week, a longer-term position may make more sense.

But if the flexibility is part of what attracts you to supply in the first place, it can be a really useful way to remain involved in education while keeping more control over your time.

Driving isn't essential, although access to a car can open up more schools and make short-notice bookings outside central Brighton easier.

Registration & safeguarding

You'll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don't currently hold one, you'll need to apply through us and join the Update Service. I'll support you with the process, although the associated cost is covered by the applicant.

We'll also require your full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible, prioritising recent and relevant employment.
