Job description

Secondary Supply Teachers & Cover Supervisors | Brighton & Surrounding Areas

Looking for flexible work in secondary education? Let's be upfront about what I'm looking for.

I'm a Recruitment Consultant working closely with a number of secondary schools across Brighton and the surrounding areas, and I'm currently looking to build a reliable pool of Supply Teachers and Cover Supervisors.

This isn't a single vacancy.

It's about building strong relationships with educators who enjoy flexible work and are happy to pick up day-to-day, short-term and pre-booked assignments throughout the academic year.

Some weeks you may have work booked well in advance. Other weeks, schools may contact me on the morning they need cover.

In fact, it's not unusual for schools to begin calling from 6:30am—and occasionally even earlier—to arrange emergency cover for that day.

That means there will be times where I'll be contacting educators from around 6:30am onwards to see who's available.

If you're someone who's happy to pick up the occasional last-minute booking, this can be a fantastic way to build regular relationships with local schools, with many educators becoming requested by name once schools get to know them.

What I'm Really Looking For

The biggest thing I'm trying to build isn't the biggest pool of educators.

It's the most reliable one.

You don't need to be available five days a week.

If you're only available on Mondays and Thursdays, that's absolutely fine.

If you're only looking to work one or two days a week, that's absolutely fine too.

What matters is that the availability you give me is genuine. If you tell me you're available on a Wednesday and a school calls me at 6:45am, I want to be confident you'll either answer the phone or get back to me quickly.

That's how trust is built—with both educators and schools—and it's what leads to people being requested back again and again.

Who This Type of Work Suits

This role won't suit everybody—and that's completely okay.

If you're looking for guaranteed full-time work every week, there may be better opportunities available.

However, if you value flexibility and like the idea of choosing when you work, this could be an excellent fit.

Many of the educators I work with are:

  • Qualified Teachers (QTS)
  • Early Career Teachers (ECTs)
  • Experienced Cover Supervisors
  • Graduates considering teacher training
  • Sports coaches, tutors or youth workers with experience leading groups of young people
  • Educators balancing work around family, study or another career
  • Semi-retired teachers wanting to stay connected to the classroom

What You Can Expect

Opportunities regularly include:

  • Day-to-day Supply Teaching
  • Cover Supervisor bookings
  • Pre-booked absences
  • Short-term placements
  • Longer-term opportunities where schools ask for you to return

Many of my strongest working relationships started with a single day's supply before developing into regular weekly work or longer-term placements.

Why Register With Me?

Before moving into recruitment, I spent several years working within SEND education myself, so I understand schools from the inside as well as the recruitment side.

My approach is simple: I'd rather build a dependable network of educators who I know and trust than send different people into schools every day.

That means taking the time to understand your experience, your availability and the type of schools you enjoy working in, so I can make bookings that work well for everyone involved.

Practical Information

  • Opportunities across Brighton & the surrounding areas
  • Flexible work around your availability
  • Immediate and September opportunities available
  • Competitive daily rates
  • Access to ongoing CPD and professional development
  • Child-only Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required

If you don't currently hold one, you'll need to apply for one through us. I'll guide you through the process, though the cost is covered by the applicant.

As part of our safeguarding process, we'll also require references covering a total of 24 months of employment history (where possible), alongside a full employment and education history.

Interested?

If you're looking for flexible secondary school work and like the idea of building a strong working relationship with one consultant and a network of local schools, I'd love to hear from you.

Whether you're available one day a week or five, apply today and let's have a conversation about what your ideal working pattern looks like.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
