Inclusive 'Good' School

An attractive school in the heart of Southsea is looking to appoint a Teacher of Music for September 2019. The School is part of a successful Academy achieving results above to local county average and in line with National averages. This is a full time position, although for the right applicant, part time will be considered. The school are willing to consider all teachers at all stages of their career. They have a unique mentoring programme to support NQTs and alternately welcome applications from experienced practitioners.

The School is 1 of 3 schools in this Academy and prides itself on being an inclusive and innovative school, serving the Fratton and Southsea area of Portsmouth. The School has excellent transport links, just a 5 minute walk from the train station and within clos proximity to the M27/A3. Graded Good by OFSTED, the school has transformed itself into a high performing school over the past three years.

In its most recent Ofsted report, it was noted that SLT have a good presence within the school, and equally take notice and action the wellbeing of its pupils and its staff. Teachers too have a great understanding of students needs and have clear and concise plans to help students achieve at their level.

The Role

The School are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Music, who demonstrates an infectious passion for teaching their subject as well as supporting pupils to become the best version of themselves. At present, the school follow the AQA exam board for this subject at GCSE level. At KS3 students enjoy the opportunity to master performance, composition, theory history and technology. They offer a contemporary music education using the latest Logic Pro X software on Apple Macs. Pupils are able to arrange their own music, develop composition skills, and use a vast range of instruments to find their sound.

Applicants are required to meet the following specification as stipulated by the school:

  • UK QTS or equivalent
  • PGCE/BEd relevant to secondary education
  • Experience teaching KS3 and KS4 music
  • Specialism within music that they can offer at an extra curricular level
  • An inclusive approach to education
