Science teacher - Maternity Cover

Teaching Personnel are working with a Roman Catholic Secondary school, located in the Wigan LEA to aid them with the appointment of a Science teacher for an upcoming Maternity gap.

The school seeks to appoint a teacher of Science who is able to teach Biology or Physics at GCSE level. Experienced and Newly Qualified Teachers are encouraged to apply, with full support provided by experience teaching staff members.

  • Science teacher - Full-time position starting in October.
  • Maternity cover with 9 guaranteed months of employment.
  • Must have taught Biology or Physics at GCSE level (Other areas at KS3 is desirable.)
  • Pay in line with newly introduced MPS/UPS standards.
  • Applicants must have or be willing to apply for a DBS that is registered to the update service.

The successful applicant will be joining a secondary school that holds an excellent reputation within its local community. Overall performance at end of key stage 4 in 2018 was above the national average and has continued to improve.

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold good subject knowledge of the National Curriculum for GCSE Science including exam specifications.
  • Have Qualified Teacher Status and a degree or a similar Science related qualification.
  • Possess a good understanding of SEND procedures.
  • Have a diverse set of skills which will enable flexible working in the classroom for both theory and practical sessions.
  • Be an innovative and reflective practitioner who is keen to learn.
  • Respect and promote the schools Ethos and Values.

This Catholic high school is a voluntary aided, 11-16, mixed comprehensive secondary school that falls under the trusteeship of the Archdiocese of Liverpool and is situated within the Wigan LEA. If commuting via car then the school is just a short drive away from the East Lancashire road, which ensures that it is easily accessible from the surrounding areas of St Helens, Warrington and Bolton. There are also direct public transport links from Wigan town centre.
