Full-Time | Mainstream Primary School | Long-Term Opportunity

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a highly rewarding, specialised role?
We are seeking a dedicated, resilient and skilled SEN TA to provide full-time 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with very complex needs within a warm and inclusive mainstream primary school. This is an opportunity to make a profound impact on a child’s development, wellbeing and access to learning.

About the Role

You will work closely with a KS2 pupil who requires consistent, structured and personalised support throughout the school day. The child presents with multiple and layered needs, which may include:

  • Significant communication and interaction difficulties
  • Complex learning challenges with a highly individualised curriculum
  • Sensory regulation needs and triggers
  • Emotional dysregulation and behaviour that may be challenging
  • Difficulties with transitions, attention and social understanding

Your role will involve building a trusted relationship, implementing tailored strategies, and ensuring the pupil can access learning, regulate effectively, and develop independence at an appropriate pace.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Support & Learning

  • Deliver 1:1 classroom support across all subjects, adapting learning tasks to meet individual needs.
  • Implement a highly personalised learning plan, working collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Facilitate multisensory activities and differentiated resources to support engagement.
  • Support with communication methods which may include visual aids, PECs, TEACCH or other structured frameworks.

Behaviour & Regulation

  • Support emotional regulation throughout the day using consistent routines and de-escalation strategies.
  • Implement behaviour support plans confidently and safely.
  • Use a calm, patient and nurturing approach to help the pupil manage anxieties or challenging moments.

Pastoral & Personal Care

  • Provide discreet support with personal care where required.
  • Create a safe, structured and predictable environment to reduce triggers and ensure wellbeing.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work under direction of the SENCO, external specialists, and class teacher.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews, observations, and EHCP targets.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and, when appropriate, with parents/carers.

The School

This welcoming mainstream primary school is committed to inclusivity and providing exceptional provision for pupils with additional needs. You will join a supportive team with access to ongoing training, guidance from experienced leaders, and a strong culture of collaboration.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential

  • Experience supporting pupils with complex SEN needs (ASD, SEMH, communication difficulties or learning delays).
  • Strong behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent, even during challenging situations.
  • Confidence adapting learning and using visual or structured approaches.
  • A proactive, committed and empathetic nature.

Desirable

  • Experience with EHCPs, personalised timetables, or SEN frameworks (e.g., TEACCH, PECs, Makaton).
  • Background in psychology, social care, education or behaviour support.
  • Training in Team Teach/positive handling.

Benefits

  • Competitive daily rate based on experience.
  • Long-term stability within a supportive primary school team.
  • Continuous professional development opportunities in SEN.
  • The chance to genuinely transform a child’s school experience and development.
