About the Role:
Our client, a vibrant and inclusive secondary academy in Mitcham, is seeking to appoint a dedicated and inspiring Teacher of Psychology to join their successful Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and innovative educator who is passionate about engaging students in the subject and supporting their academic and personal development.
As a Teacher of Psychology, the successful candidate will deliver a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum, while playing a key role in monitoring student progress, raising attainment, and contributing to the wider school community.
Main Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver outstanding Psychology lessons across KS4 and KS5, ensuring strong progression and engagement
Contribute to curriculum planning and resource development in collaboration with the department
Monitor and support student progress and development, acting as a Form Tutor when required
Maintain accurate records, assess student work regularly, and provide feedback in line with school policy
Engage in professional development and performance review processes
Contribute to quality assurance and evaluation of teaching and learning within the department
Communicate effectively with students, parents/carers, and external agencies when appropriate
Foster a safe, inclusive, and motivating learning environment
Promote high standards of behaviour, achievement, and aspirations across all year groups
What They Are Looking For:
The successful candidate will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant Psychology-related degree
Experience teaching Psychology at secondary level (can include PGCE/teaching practice), preferably in an 11–18 school
A thorough understanding of effective teaching, learning strategies, and curriculum planning
High expectations for all learners and a commitment to equal access and opportunity
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students
Knowledge of current educational frameworks, particularly within multi-ethnic, urban school contexts
Good ICT competence, including creative use of interactive technologies in the classroom
Effective communication skills with students, staff, and parents
A collaborative, reflective, and proactive approach to teaching and development
The ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their full potential
