Launch Your Psychology Career in Education

Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience supporting children and young people with Autism, ADHD and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs?

We are recruiting Psychology Graduates to work within specialist SEN and SEMH schools across Bristol, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in:

  • Educational Psychology
  • Clinical Psychology
  • Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
  • Speech & Language Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy

  • Youth Work and Social Care

The Role

You will work closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • SEMH needs
  • Anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance
  • Communication and interaction difficulties

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support
  • Building positive relationships with pupils
  • Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing
  • Delivering structured interventions and targeted support
  • Promoting engagement both inside and outside the classroom
  • Supporting behaviour using positive, trauma-informed approaches
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and pastoral teams

Every day is different, and success comes from patience, empathy, resilience and a genuine interest in understanding how young people learn and develop.

Why Psychology Graduates Are Highly Suited

Psychology graduates bring a strong understanding of:

  • Human behaviour and development
  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Neurodiversity and additional learning needs
  • Communication and relationship building
  • Research-informed approaches to support

Many pupils in SEN and SEMH settings benefit from adults who are naturally curious about behaviour, wellbeing and child development.

This role allows you to move beyond theory and gain real-world experience supporting young people with complex needs.

The School Environment

You will be working in specialist schools across Bristol that offer:

  • Small class sizes
  • Exceptional staff support and training
  • A strong focus on inclusion and wellbeing
  • Specialist SEN and SEMH provisions
  • Collaborative multi-disciplinary teams
  • Opportunities to develop long-term professional skills

Who This Role Is Ideal For

We are looking for graduates who:

  • Hold a degree in Psychology or a related subject
  • Have a genuine interest in mental health, autism and child development
  • Are patient, empathetic and resilient
  • Can build positive relationships with young people
  • Are confident working in dynamic and rewarding environments

Experience with children or young people is beneficial but not essential. This could include:

  • Tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Youth work
  • Coaching
  • Volunteering
  • Care or support work

Training & Career Progression

This role provides invaluable experience for graduates pursuing:

  • Educational Psychology Doctorates
  • Clinical Psychology pathways
  • Assistant Psychologist roles
  • Therapy-related careers
  • Teacher Training
  • Behaviour Mentor positions
  • SEN and Inclusion careers

You will receive:

  • Safeguarding training
  • SEN and SEMH training
  • Behaviour management development
  • Ongoing support from experienced education professionals

What You Will Receive

  • Weekly PAYE pay (no umbrella deductions)
  • Long-term, stable role (not day-to-day supply)
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Support from experienced consultants and school staff
  • Opportunities for permanent employment
  • Valuable experience for postgraduate applications and future careers

Why Apply?

  • Gain hands-on experience supporting Autism and mental health needs
  • Develop skills directly relevant to psychology careers
  • Work alongside experienced education and therapeutic professionals
  • Build a strong foundation for future postgraduate study
  • Make a genuine difference to young people's lives
