Teaching Supply work - Autumn 1

Work for the largest Education Staffing Agency in the UK!

Receive excellent benefits, CPD opportunities, competitive rates of pay and access to a private pension scheme.

Regular opportunities for short and long term work in the local area

It is now the start of the Autumn term and Teaching Personnel are keen to appoint dedicated and flexible teaching staff who can work in the local area providing cover for absent teachers on a short and long term basis.

A record number of teachers worked on a temporary basis in the Lancashire area through Teaching Personnel last academic year. With their continued hard work, Teaching Personnel were able to develop relationships with a number of client Primary Schools and therefore keep a good number of teachers busy, offering suitable work in the local area.

'Supply' or 'temporary cover' is often seen as a last resort behind the preferred contracted work in schools; however over the last 12 -24 months a number of schools have turned to temporary staff in order to manage staffing solutions. There are many benefits to working on a temporary basis for the school and the teacher and so this has definitely increased the number of temporary and temp-perm appointments in recent years.

What are you expected to do as a cover teacher?

A cover or supply teacher is someone who is appointed through Teaching Personnel on a temporary basis to cover a day or multiple days across the academic year. The reason for cover can vary depending on the school and year group. Stress related sickness is not always the reason! In previous years we have seen schools using Teaching Personnel to work their own recruitment alongside their own recruitment; this is a perfect way to secure a role without having to go through the futile County Council process. As the supply or cover teacher, you will be expected to undertake the full role of the class teacher; planning assessing and reviewing as you would as a permanent member of staff. You will attend INSETS, after school meetings and build relationships with the parents and staff.

What are the benefits of working on a supply basis?

There are plenty of benefits of working on supply and specifically through Teaching Personnel. Whether it be the access to subsidised continuous professional development; competitive rates of pay; dedicated consultants on hand to provide advice and offer work; employers contributions to a private pension.

The benefits extend to what you do on a daily basis! The key message with working on supply is that you actually have the opportunity to pick the school you want to work in, unlike applying for county council job roles that you don't really have much information on!

Applying to Teaching Personnel is easy and often efficient. We expect all candidate to hold a good level of English and solid Maths knowledge. You will hold QTS and be able to demonstrate in the interview process how you can move children forward in their learning. References are vitally important to the recruitment process and as a standard we have to acquire at least two education based references graded GOOD or above. Teaching Personnel do have the ability to turn teachers away based on performance at interview and also in the quality of references.
