Phonics Specialist- Experience required in Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds
Experience required in planning and delivering small grouped intervention sessions centred around Reading and Writing development
Level 3 qualifications or above is a necessity
A small school in the heart of Manchester have approached Teaching Personnel in order to source a specialist Teaching and Learning Support Assistant to work alongside the class teacher; planning and delivering high quality phonics intervention sessions. The role is to work from present until the end of the Summer term in the Year 1 and Year 2 class. The successful candidate will be one who has good experiences working in lower primary years and someone who can use their own initiative to raise standards in Reading and Writing. The school are hoping to gain their best ever KS1 Reading and Writing results and to ensure they do this the Head teacher and SENCO have selected a number of children who would benefit from an intense booster programme.
On a daily basis you will be working with children aged 5-7 years. These children are mainly working at lower than expected age related levels for Reading and Writing. The majority of children in the two classes arrive from socially deprived backgrounds and have little academic support at home. There are some behavioural needs in the two classes and so it is important that you can use a range of strategies to ensure poor behaviour does not impact on learning and the development of the children's Reading and Writing.
The school are currently using Read Write Inc. as the primary phonics scheme for the KS1 children, this has now been the primary resource since September 2017 and the impact has been 'positive' according to the Head teacher. The members of staff in school have had a number of INSET training sessions centred around Phonics delivery and so the subject knowledge and pedagogy across school is second to none in the local area.
The school in Manchester is located 5 minutes from the M60 and is perfect for public transport links. There are already a number of staff working in school through Teaching Personnel and the general reviews are positive for the way the Head teacher runs the working day. The School is graded GOOD by Ofsted from a recent inspection in April 2018 and within the report the Head teacher was commended for 'maintaining a good quality of education in the school' and 'successfully challenging underperformance when necessary'
In order to apply for this role, you must have the following;
An accredited Level 3 qualification in Teaching and Learning in Schools.
Prior experience in a KS1 class, supporting children with additional needs or with Reading and Writing.
A Child Workforce DBS on the update service.
GCSE C or above in Maths and English
The School have also specified that it would be preferable to have the following;
A specialism in English Language, Literature or Linguistics at A-Level or Degree Level.
Training in Phonics delivery either in Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds.
Prior experience in delivering small grouped Reading and Writing interventions.
Experience working alongside children with challenging behaviour and special educational needs.
