Pastoral Support Officer

Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning? A well-established secondary school in Rochdale is seeking an experienced Pastoral Support Officer to join their dedicated team. This is a vital role for someone who can remain calm under pressure and build positive, professional relationships with students—especially those who present challenging behaviour.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day pastoral support for students with a range of behavioural and emotional needs

• Manage and respond to on-call situations across the school

• Supervise and support students in isolation and provision units

• Implement behaviour strategies and restorative approaches

• Work closely with the pastoral and safeguarding teams to ensure a safe and supportive environment

• Record and report behaviour incidents in line with school policies

• Build trust and rapport with students to help them re-engage with learning

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience in a similar pastoral or behaviour support role within a school is essential

• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

• Ability to stay calm, assertive, and professional in challenging situations

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
