The Music department teaches Music in Years 7 and 8, moving onto GCSE in Years 9, 10 and 11 currently as part of the options process. The school are hopeful to secure a Year 12 RSL class from September after having a year away from Sixth form teaching. In KS3 the emphasis is on performance looking at the keyboard and ukulele. The school intertwine this with composition work starting simple with 4 bar rhythmic phrases at the start of year 7, building to composing music for Tom and Jerry using music technology. The Year 11 BTEC students thrive in our purpose built facilities containing 2 practice rooms and a fully equipped recording studio. At this school they learn, performance, composition, sound engineering and events management. The dedicated music classrooms are equipped with data projectors and pianos to assist in the acquisition of all musical skills, preparing students for a higher level of study at GCSE and beyond in their Sixth Form. The school currently offer peripatetic lessons across all orchestral instruments, guitar, singing, keyboard and drumming. The school has an orchestra and a choir, including a staff section, who perform at various successful events throughout the school year.
